About ICTa

What is ICTa

The International Clay Technology Association (ICTa) is an association operating within the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and was formed as a result of a merger between the Institute of Clay Technology (ICT) and IOM3 in 2006.

The mission of ICTa is to promote heavy clay technology on a UK and international basis and to provide its members with opportunities to broaden their professional outlook, skills and qualifications, thus enabling them to face change with greater confidence and thereby help secure a dynamic future for the heavy ceramics industry.

ICTa will achieve this by providing members with a wide range of technical meetings and events, education and fellowship and with well-informed communications.

Through its links with the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, ICTa can offer professional qualifications accredited by both the Engineering Council and the Science Council for a range of professions from technician/operator to senior management level.

History

Institute of Clay Technology
The ICT was formed in 1927 as the National Association of Clayworks Managers, originally with a particular emphasis on management and production matters.

Over the years the Institute has adapted to changes in the industry. It now embraces all disciplines from materials extraction, through production, marketing, finance, administration, management and strategy.

Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining
The Institute has a long history going back into the mid 19th Century when it first existed at the Iron and Steel Institute. Over the years the Institute has evolved and undergone a number of mergers with other materials related institutions to form the current organisation. The Institute has over 20,000 members worldwide.
