Technician members would normally have a NVQ level 3 qualification in materials, minerals, mining or a related discipline. They apply proven techniques and procedures to the solution of practical problems. Those working in an engineering environment (as opposed to a scientific environment) can register with the Engineering Council as professional Engineering Technicians (EngTech).

Requirements for Technician membership of the Institute

Associate members (AIMMM) will normally have completed an honours degree or may hold a Higher National Certificate / Diploma together with some additional training. They apply this knowledge to optimise the application of existing science and engineering, and to contribute to the introduction of novel science or emerging technology. Associate members working as engineers (rather than scientists) may be awarded the professional qualification Incorporated Engineer (IEng).

Requirements for Associate membership of the Institute

For both Technician members and Associate members, the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining offers:
