Technician of the year

Each year, the Institute makes two awards for the Technician of the Year. The awards are open to all those currently studying materials or minerals technology or related subjects and those who have completed such courses within the last two years. There is no age barrier!

The Technician of the Year Award consists of two separate prizes - the Higher Award and the National Award.

HIGHER AWARD Category A

Awarded to the best technician studying, or recently awarded, either:

  • a Higher National qualification, or
  • a Foundation / Ordinary degree.

The winner and the nominating educational establishment each receive £500, a certificate, and national and local publicity.

NATIONAL AWARD Category B

Awarded to the best technician studying, or recently awarded, either:

  • an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship, or
  • a BTEC/SQA National Certificate/Diploma, or
  • a City and Guilds Progression Award.
  • The winner and the nominating educational establishment each receive £250, a certificate, and national and local publicity.
