Energy Materials Group board

Professor Stuart IrvineProfessor Stuart IrvineThe topical theme of energy pervades all aspects of modern life and even more so now with the 21st Century challenges of climate change, maintaining energy supply and waste management.  The Energy Materials Group (EMG) brings together a wide range of interests in the Institute with a common focus on energy.

Its role cuts across divisional activity and provides a broad view on materials supply, synthesis, and materials application to cover a very broad range of energy generation from conventional power plants to micro renewable energy.

An event on Sustainable Materials for Emerging Energy Technology (SMEET) was held on the 28th February 2011, which exemplified the cross cutting nature of EMG with presentations on metals supply through to advanced functional materials for renewable energy, energy storage and energy demand reduction.  The presentations from this meeting can be seen on the web page ‘past events’.

The EMG has forged close links with other organisations such as the Mats UK – Materials for Energy team, Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the Advanced Power Generation Task Force (APGTF).

We welcome enquiries from anyone interested in the work of the group.
