Dr Rob Mitchell
I attained a MEng (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leicester in 2001. In September of that year I started a PhD at the Rolls-Royce University Technology Partnership in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, University of Cambridge. Over the next three years I worked on a range of potential next generation nickel alloys for rotor disc application.
Following the completion of my PhD in 2004 I joined the Materials Capability Acquisition Group at Rolls-Royce. I have worked on a number of programmes pertaining to advanced nickel disc alloys. Initially in support of the Trent 1000 engine programme and currently future engine projects including the Trent XWB. I am responsible for the supervision of PhD/EngD students at several University Technology Partnerships. I am also the Technical Lead for the Company's Vision 20 nickel disc activities.
In my spare time I take full advantage of my workplace being so close to the peak district and enjoy walking in all types of weather. I enjoy going to the gym, playing rugby and cricket, although neither particularly well!
