The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) is registered under the Data Protection Act and agrees to treat all personal information you supply in accordance with the Act.
IOM3 collects information about users of the website in order to help improve the website and the services that IOM3 provides to its users and members. IP addresses of visitors are logged for administration purposes. The IP address indicates the location of your computer on the Internet. This information may be used to provide statistical information about the users of the IOM3 website.
Registered users of the website and members of The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining must provide certain personal contact details in order to make use of specific facilities and benefits on this site.
By registering on this website, or becoming a member of IOM3, you agree to receive information about the Institute’s products and services. Registered users and IOM3 members can opt out of receiving such information. The facility to do this is available via the My Profile link.
Contact information provided by members and registered users may be passed on to the Institute’s local societies, technical divisions and associations as appropriate with the purpose of providing registered users and members with information relevant to their interests activities.
IOM3 will not pass on any individual user details (including your email address) to a third party without the user’s prior consent.

We are advised by our website hosts that all data transmitted between the user's web browser and the web server is secured by 128-bit SSL encryption. Currently the highest risk piece of information that is a target for data theft is the user's mother's maiden name, which is not requested on the IOM3 website. Users are welcome to contact IOM3 by telephone and identify themselves in a way which they are comfortable with and the Institute can reset the user's password to something of the user's choice. (Users can also do this themselves of course, within their own account settings.)
The new-user password reminder form only checks the data supplied then sends off a reminder email without storing the data.
