Electronic Applications Division - mission
Terms of Reference, March 2008
- Promulgation of knowledge in the field, by means of conferences, seminars and workshops.
- Promotion of education and training, through professional development courses etc., both in Singapore and overseas.
- Commissioning and promotion of publications, particularly in IoM journals.
- Initiation of activities to inform Institute members about new developments in electronics applications, and to encourage members to exchange such information.
- Representing the IOM3 in the field as required, providing specialist advice to external bodies eg Government, EC, standards organisations, etc.
- Representing the IOM3 on International Materials Organisations e.g. the Electronics Materials forum set up by TMS and other relevant societies.
- Liaising with other professional institutes, e.g. IEE, IOP, on topics within its scope.
- Making recommendations for Prizes, Medals and Honours within its scope.
- Advising the Institute on issues within its scope.
Statement of Scope
The Board is concerned primarily with functional materials in electronics and related topics, and with the processing, characterisation and application of these. Among the materials included are:
semiconductors: bulk and thin film crystalline, polycrystalline and amorphous
technical ceramics: dielectrics, ferroelectrics, pyro- and piezoelectrics
superconductors
magnetic materials
optical and optoelectronic materials
polymers with optical or electronic functionality
materials for electronic packaging and assembly
EADB: Preliminary List of Objectives
- To organise or sponsor 1 to 3 other technical meetings annually and co-sponsor several others.
- To identify prizes and honours related to our scope, and nominate recipients for these through representation to the awarding bodies, and to seek sponsorship for a new IOM3 prize in Electronic Materials.
- To maintain, and periodically assess, links with other professional bodies and government (and related) agencies
- To identify relevant bodies and organisations involved in forming policy and strategy in topics within our scope, and to offer advice to these and make representations in support of members' interests.
- To identify and review suitable courses and make this information available to interested members.
