Mike HicksDr Mike Hicks is the Director for Materials & Mechanical Behaviour at Rolls-Royce plc. He has been with the Company for 30 years and is widely recognised for his contributions to materials engineering. He is the Company’s authority on aerospace materials and the Global Skill Owner. The latter role involves promoting and developing the materials skill base within the Company.
Mike was awarded a Rolls-Royce Engineering Fellowship in 2002 for his work in Materials and was presented with the T. B. Marsden Award by IOM3 in 2004.
He was a member of the 2008 RAE team (also in 2001) and is on the Industrial Steering Groups of Imperial College and the University of Cambridge. He chairs the particulate engineering sector of the Materials KTN, is a Board member of NAMTEC and Chairs the Materials & Structures NTC within the Defence and Aerospace KTN. He has worked on a number of BIS and IOM3 committees and is a UK representative on the NATO AVT Materials and Structures Committee.
Mike was elected Senior Vice President of IOM3 in 2011, having been Vice President from 2008. He is an Honorary Professor at the University of Birmingham and has authored of a number of external publications.
Mike is a Fellow of IOM3 and the RAeS and a Senior Member of The Welding Institute. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2007.
His leisure activities include hill-walking, travel, music and gardening.
