Member's Benevolent Trust

Assistance and advice in times of hardship is available to Institute Members through The Member’s Benevolent Trust (MBT)*

The Trust is an independent charity (No 207184) devoted to the relief of the following individuals. A needy person who is or has been a paid-up member of the Institute, or of bodies which have merged with, or been absorbed by the Institute, and spouses, widows, widowers, parents, children, grandchildren, or Dependants of such a person.

  • The Trust exists to help those eligible who are in need because of death, illness, reduced circumstances or social distress by providing personal contacts and advice and/or financial grants as the Board believes appropriate.
  • All applications are reviewed in complete confidentiality. To ensure anonymity a file number is allocated so that no information can be transferred to the Member’s file at the Institute.
  • Grants may be made to assist with general household needs, furniture, security installations, medical aids and adaptations, clothing, respite breaks, school uniforms and other one-off exceptional items which may be required as a result of hardship or need.
  • The Trust is particularly anxious to help unemployed and redundant members in the following ways: assistance with subscriptions, travel grants for job interviews; relocation grants; appropriate course fees (where this will widen scope for re-employment).
  • A main aim is to help Members stay within their profession or maintain contact.
