Yet another successful Schools Materials Science Day in 2010

On Friday 12 November the Society sponsored a further event in the series of annual events run jointly by our own Science and Engineering Ambassador, Debbie Reekie, and Pauline Farrell from Sellafield Ltd in the Sellafield Centre. In attendance were ~100 Year 10's from Stainburn School (Workington) and Whitehaven School. As usual they were entertained to a 'hands on' lecture on materials followed by a competitive mini-project which involved making a 'crash hat for an egg', all superbly masterminded by IoM3's own Education guru Diane Aston who travelled all the way from Leicester to West Cumbria for the event. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their day and a lot of interest was expressed in the IoM3 SAS scheme by teachers and technicians.

50th Anniversary Book Launch and Dinner voted "great success"

The Society 50th Anniversary Dinner on Tuesday 12th October 2010 was voted a geat success by members and guests. Around 45 people including IoM3 President Barry Lye and IoM3 Membership Development Manager Sarah Boad attended the event. After a welcome from Society President Andy Thomas, Barry Lye gave a short speech on the importance of education and political support for science and technology in the future economic welfare of the UK and the role payed by IoM3. Society member Gerry Eggers then gave a very witty presentation of the book that the Society had produced to record the first half century of the history of the Society, before he and Barry Lye signed copies of the book which were distributed to those in attendance. All in all a very good evening!!
