Welcome to the Materials Society of Cumbria

Welcome to the website of the Materials Society of Cumbria (MSC), the voice of the materials, minerals and mining community in Cumbria.

MSC is affiliated to the Institute of Materials Minerals & Mining (IOM3) and has been in existence since 1960. Although there are over 80 IOM3 members registered in the county, the Society draws its active membership primarily from industries on the West Coast of Cumbria. In addition the Society welcomes non-IOM3 members to all its events e.g. Nuclear Institute, IMechE, RSC etc. as well as anyone with an interest in materials minerals or mining.

The Society also now works closely with The Samuel Lindow Foundation based at the UCLan campus at Westlakes Science Park, Whitehaven, in promoting its public outreach science programme.

For more information on membership and monthly meetings/events please follow above links on this website or contact our Membership Secretary John Jowsey at: john.jowsey@sellafieldsites.com (01900-821555) or our Publicity & Programme Secretary, John Hill at: john.x.hill@sellafieldsites.com (01900-822323).
