Welcome to the Materials Chemistry Committee

The aim of the Committee is to provide UK industry and research bodies with access to reliable and up-to-date information for phase equilibria and the thermodynamics for all classes of engineering materials. Such information plays a vital role in underpinning many spheres of materials science and technology. With this in mind the committee seeks to coordinate and monitor critical assessment and experimental work in various organisations and institutions in the UK, to avoid undue overlap of experimental studies and to encourage and nurture international co-operation on phase diagram knowledge. The APDIC World Round-Robin Seminar 2012

The Materials Chemistry Committee is proud to announce that the next in the series of APDIC World Round-Robin Seminars will be held as a 'Fringe Event' at the 2012 Institute Materials Congress. This 4th World Round-Robin Seminar is primarily concerned with the practical use of phase diagrams for industry and commerce, also teaching the subject for that purpose. The Seminar is applicable to a very wide range of materials, not only with metals and alloys but also ceramics, slags, salts, semiconductors, superconductors, glass, nuclear materials and polymers. The following areas will be highlighted with presentations by key speakers:

•   Gas Turbines

•   Lithium-ion Batteries

•   Nuclear Safety

•   Cement

•   Phase Diagram Applications

•   Experimental Techniques

•   Calculations and Databases

•   Ab-Initio Approaches

The seminar is aimed at those who would like to gain an appreciation of what phase diagrams and computational thermodynamics can offer in a range of materials applications. A full day event, the morning session will give an overview of the science of phase diagrams and computational thermodynamics, that will then serve as as primer for the afternoon discussions of real-life Industrial problems. The seminar will take place at 1 Carlton House Terrace on Monday the 25th of June.
