Ask4Plastic - a B2B global plastic portal for raw material, machinery, chemicals, packaging. Offers an online directory and trading facilities. (India)

Azom.com - "The A to Z of Materials, is a specialist materials website specifically designed and operated by materials experts with many years of practical experience in industrial and academic environment. It is a comprehensive database dedicated to informing and educating engineers, designers and scientists from all industries and in academia about all types of engineering materials - metals. ceramics,polymers and composites". The Biomaterials Network - this site is a collection of some selected internet links related to biomaterials and also some relevant links to biomedical engineering, biology, medicine and health sciences in general. Biomat.net facilities also include a job exchange section and the Directory of Researchers, where research expertise can be searched. At present, this website intends to become a major tool in linking the biomaterials community worldwide. Membership to Biomat.net is free, and members can search all of Biomat.net without charge.

British Plastics & Rubber On-Line - has an online directory of around 1,500 companies in the UK supplying machinery and materials for polymer processors. Full contact details of the companies are given. You can search by product category or company name, locate the UK distributor of an overseas company, or simply search the directory for a word or phrase. You can print all the companies listed for each category, or copy and paste them into a text file to create a mailmerge letter.

Builders Needs - an information source for the UK construction industry, bringing all parts of the industry to one site: products, services, jobs and information.

Ceramics WebBook - provides evaluated data and links to other ceramics information sources. It is maintained by the Ceramics Division of the Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory of NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology). (USA)

Cerammix 2000 - International Ceramic Server - "an independent ceramic information resource for the specialists of ceramic industry from the countries of Eastern Europe".

ChemFinder.com - a chemical database that provides information including physical property data and 2D chemical structures. It allows to search by formula, chemical name, chemical compounds, common name, weight, CAS Number, etc. Individual access is provided free of charge to the scientific community.

Ciria - Construction Recycling Sites (GB) - "free online database of UK recycling sites that accept or sell construciton materials, It is jointly funded by the Institution of Civil Engineers, the UK government and RMC Environment Fund. As well as telling where to buy recycled materials, it also gives details of local companies that will take constrauctionwaste. It also provides a list of published guidance on using recycled material".

Corrosion Doctors - this site contains details of events, frequently asked questions and links to sites of related interest. EEVL Edinburgh Engineering Virtual Library - the UK gateway to quality engineering information on the Internet.

ELPU - Environmental Legislation for Polymer Users - "practical and simple support tool to help identify the areas of environmental law that affect your business". Non-members of Rapra can use a 'pay-to-view' facility.

The Engine - it was established to facilitate an efficient and effective transfer of technical information to all members of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, the engineering community, students, academics and the general public. The Engine Database holds almost 30.000 scientific and technical bibliographic references from 1980 to present. It contains citations to journal articles, conference papers, research and development reports, books and theses. (Australia)

Engineering Resources Online - it aims to give a practical guide to engineering products, companies and resources. The content is biased to UK/European resources. There is an A-Z company list directory. Other sources are arranged by type of site e.g. software, recruitment, patent offices and engineering trade shows. The site is searchable. (UK)

E-Steel.Corp - this site is an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of steel.

Foundry Online.com - it is designed to be the complete interactive information service for all parties including casting buyers, foundries and related industries. The Foundry Online server offers both general information headings and headings related to specific areas of interest. It includes - industry news, events, plant and machinery mart, recruitment opportunities, industry discussion forum, training, editorials, environment and books/periodicals/videos. The specific headings include lists of (mainly UK) investment casting foundries, sand and die casting foundries, trade associations, patternmakers and patternshop suppliers, plant and machinery suppliers, consumable suppliers, non-destructive testing and analysis, metals suppliers; and research and development. Materials Science Resources on the Web - this site, by Justin McCarthy, a recent graduate for Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, USA, is an A to Z glossary of materials engineering terms.

Materials Selection and Processing - this site, produced mainly by members of the Cambridge University Engineering Department Materials Group, is intended as a resource to aid the understanding of materials and materials processing for engineering. It contains resources covering the areas of materials information (including selection charts), materials properties, manufacturing and materials processing, and product design. Some of the sections are still to be completed.

MatHub - is the focal point for computational materials science on the web, providing a gateway to scientific information about modelling and informatics.

MaterSci.Net - provides a searchable database of Internet sources related to Materials Science and Metallurgy. Launched in Jan. 2000 and the mission is to become the best source for information related to all branches of Materials Science. To date, there are a total of 375 links in the database.

MatWeb - it is a free online materials property database with over 28,000 materials that can be searched by name, property value, or composition.

Me-Metals - covers mines, metals, ferrous and non-ferrous, and their related industries in the Middle East.

Metadex - METADEX is the only comprehensive source for information on metals and alloys: their properties, manufacturing, applications, and development. Begun in 1966, METADEX contains over 1,425,000 references and is the database equivalent of Metals Abstracts, Metals Abstracts Index, and Alloys Index. PlastUnivers - this is a Spanish Internet resource guide for professionals of the plastics industry. The site is in Spanish only and provides a directory of plastics manufacturers and suppliers for the plastics industry. Information on current events is also available, with industry news, details of conferences and international trade fairs, as well as an electronic version of past issues of the professional magazine 'Universal Plastics' (in Spanish).

PRW.com - this is the first English-language online daily news service dedicated to the European plastics industry. It is free, no subscription or registration is required.

PSIGate - this is the physical sciences information gateway of the UK's Resource Discovery Network (RDN). It provides access to internet science resources in the following areas: astronomy, chemistry, earth sciences, physics, materials science, science history and policy.

Pu2Pu.com - a portal dedicated to the Polyurethane industry, includes general, technical and financial news, products and applications information and links.

RAM (Recent Advances in Manufacturing) - this is a bibliographic database available through EEVL (Edinburgh Engineering Virtual Library) for manufacturing and related areas. Contains about 25,ooo articles and indexes over 500 journals, magazines and conference proceedings. Areas covered in RAM include manufacturing management, product development, manufacturing systems and processes, manufacturing planning, control and maitenance.

The Rapra Polymer Directory- contains nearly 8000 companies. This is a global trade directory for the rubber and plastics industries, and is an expanded version of the European Plastics Directory. It is fully searchable by company name, products and services, key personnel, addresses and locations. New users can search the directory free-of-charge by products and services. The users will be provided with the name of a company but further company information will be charged for. Registered users can search the entire directory by - company names; products; services; addresses; personnel names and retrieve full details of the company and its products.

ResponsibleGold.org - an information source for consumers of gold products provided by the world's premier gold producers.

Rubber and Plastics News - is the rubber industry's directory of manufacturers and suppliers, and buyer's guide mainly for the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. The Product Manufacturers section provides alphabetical listings of rubber product manufacturers. The data include company and factory locations, phone numbers, the names of top officials, markets served, types of rubber and machinery used and other information. The Classified Rubber Product List gives an alphabetical list of products. From there you can link to individual items and the companies that make them. A Buyer's Guide gives a listing of the type of goods or service needed, from where you are again taken to a list of suppliers. Sheet Metal World - this site offers the option ot receive a free e-mailed newsletter and provides an A-Z listing of manufacturers with links to the majority of sites, a calendar of events, and a list of magazines and journals, linked where appropriate. A selection of books on relevant topics is given, along with some free downloadable software.

Sol-Gel Gateway - a unique directory on sol-gel related science and technology fields. Includes extended bibliography, research groups, who's who directory, original articles, tutorials, tech and job opportunities and more.

Solvent Central - a recently launched site for the purpose of helping users of chemical solvents to select and evaluate alternative solvent products for their new or existing technical applications. (USA)

Steel Matter - - British Steel (now part of Corus Group) and MATTER have collaborated on the development of this new series of interactive educational software resources aimed at helping students understand the key concepts and relationships in ferrous metallurgy.

Steel-UK - this site has been developed by a consortium of six organisations: British Constructional Steelwork Association, British Metals Federation, ISSB Ltd., The National Association of Steel Stockholders, Steel Training Ltd., and the UK Steel Association.

SteelWeb

SubsTech - SubsTech is a free and open knowledge source on Materials >> Engineering. It contains a wide range of information on metals, ceramics, polymers and composites, including their properties, applications and technologies for their manufacture. Users can create their own Expert page, edit the site content, add new articles and contribute to discussions.

SurfaceWeb.com - this is a gateway for the surface engineering community. Access to the services requires free registration. Information on this site includes full text articles and papers, a worldwide directory of companies, an interactive and searchable glossary of terms, a discussion group, a coatings database, a powders database, a list of events, news, links to related books, and a list of members of SurfaceWeb.

TubeNet - this site serves the tube and pipe industries. The pages contain product news and updates, details of shows and exhibitions. There are also directories of machine manufacturers and tube and pipe suppliers, together with a mailing list and associated archives.

UK Welder - carries practical information, articles and job vacancies for welders, welding inspectors and welding engineers.

Virtual-Engineer - this portal serves the building and construction industries. It was launced in November 2000. The site uses indexing based on the Uniclass system. For civil and structural engineers, the sections cover the major materials and components including steel, concrete, timber, masonry, piling and foundations, fixings, accessories, paint and corrosion protection, waterproofing and fire profing. For mechanical, electrical and public health engineers, the main categories cover sanitary, waste, electric power and lighting, climate control, HVAC, communication and fire suppression.

WeldaSearch - is a comprehensive database containing abstracts to journal articles, research reports, books, standards, patents, theses and special publications in the areas of joining metals, plastics and ceramics, metal and ceramic spraying, thermal cutting, brazing, soldering and related topics. WireNet.org - this site is produced by the Wire Association International. It contains free access to most areas, but members-only access to pages on past journal issues archive, some member information and reference information - technical tables, metal and stock prices. Pages freely available include - current issue of the Wire Journal International, with full text of news items and people in the industry. Information on a wire and cable discussion list, a list of events and publications is also given.
