Keith Barnes CSci FInstPkg - Chairman, The Packaging Society
Keith BarnesKeith Barnes has been involved with packaging for over 45 years. He was Chairman of the former Institute of Packaging in 1997 and subsequently became a Trustee of that Institute and indeed was a member of the merger committee with IOM3. Since then he has played an active role as a Board member of the Packaging Society. He also joined the Sustainable Development Group, Energy Materials Group and the Surface Engineering Group.Keith started his packaging career with Ilford Ltd (Photographic) and became the Packaging Manager. His next packaging challenge was at Boots where he was involved in Cost Reduction and Packaging Innovations.
Branching out as a consultant with Packform Ltd he started work with his major client, Mintel, on all aspects of packaging. At the same time he became the UK co-ordinator for Michigan State University (MSU) Packaging Summer School (July each year). These relationships continue with KB Consulting.
Keith has written numerous articles and given many presentations in the UK and globally, now specialising on sustainability issues and the environment.
In his new capacity Keith intends to move the profile of packaging forward through multi-media exposure and get the facts and the value of packaging over to the public. Through all of this the various supporting activities will provide benefit for IOM3.
