Jaymeen Amin
I am a Composites Materials and Processes (M&P) engineer, working for Airbus. Airbus is one of the largest civil aircraft manufacturers in the world, producing aircraft in the 100+ seat category and above. It is also the producer of what is currently the biggest passenger aircraft in the world, the A380.
I joined Airbus through their graduate scheme in 2003 and during my time on the scheme experienced working in a wide variety of departments and gained a lot of experience working in teams with some of the best engineers in their fields.
As part of the scheme, I successfully completed external placements with QANTAS (in Australia) and the wing assembly facility in Broughton (Wales) and also experienced the business side of Airbus UK, learning about organisation structure and interfacing with customers and suppliers. After experiencing many disciplines all around the company, I chose to settle into my current role as a Composites M&P engineer. This role involves managing and co-ordinating test and research projects within the company to support the ongoing development of current and future aircraft projects, whilst integrating knowledge from the fast-expanding field of aerospace composites.
Prior to joining Airbus I successfully completed an MSc in Lightweight Materials at Manchester University, which was a great step into Airbus. My first degree was also in Materials Science and Engineering, with a different institute down south in the beautiful city of Bath. I had a fantastic time at Bath and took advantage of the amazing sport facilities and it was here that I published my first scientific paper. I became the committee member on the Young persons board of the IOM3 in 2006. I see my role as a great opportunity to became active with IOM3, help to raise our profile in the field and also to network with people from industry and academia.
