Information Services

The Information Services group of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining provides both a technical enquiry service and more traditional library services to members, non-members, industry, academia and the public. Company membership of the Institute through the Industrial Affiliate Scheme provides rapid access to all of these services.

Materials Information Service

The IOM3 Materials Information Service (MIS) provides a helpline to assist companies with materials selection and supplier or subcontractor location. Staffed by qualified and experienced materials technologists, this impartial and confidential service is available to industry and academia, as well as to IOM3 members.

Library services

The Institute provides traditional library services such as book loans and photocopying, with access to tens of thousands of books on materials, minerals and mining. The Institute's libraries at London and Grantham are a store of extremely valuable information. Library staff can provide additional services such as
  • Literature searches and surveys
  • Data compilation
  • Selective alert services

IMMAGE is the world's foremost database of references to the scientific and engineering literature of the international minerals industry. Covering material published from 1979, IMMAGE now contains over 100,000 references to published papers, books, reports and more.

Archive collection

The Institute owns a number of items of historical interest, including the Sir Henry Bessemer Collection, Percy's papers, antiquarian books, Dunlop/BTR research reports and mineral reports. There are also subject indexes to mining industry literature from 1894 onwards and modern publications on mining history.
