Dr Ileigo Akagwu
I am an engineer at JP Kenny - a project management and engineering design consultancy for the oil and gas industry. My job involves providing materials engineering support to onshore, offshore and subsea projects. My continuously evolving role has so far involved: materials selection, corrosion assessment, designing corrosion protection systems, drafting technical reports, writing specifications, technical proposal evaluation and pipeline inspection data assessment to determine ‘fitness-for-purpose'.
Prior to joining JP Kenny I completed a BEng Honours degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Brunel University in 1999. Following graduation I worked as a Research Engineer at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), while studying for an Engineering Doctorate in Environmental Technology (EngD). I completed my EngD "Studies On Thermo-Physical Properties Of Molten Aluminium For Environment-Friendly Automotive Applications" in 2006, with support from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and NPL.
Being part of the Younger Members Committee of the Institute of Materials Minerals and Mining (IOM3) is an opportunity for me to support the network of IOM3 members, both in academia and industry, in the early years of their career.
