I am finding it nigh impossible to get support for my chartered application. I understand that it should be driven by the individual but there seems to be a general ignorance or disregard for such in the polymers field. My local IOM3 society is ineffective too in fostering knowledge & networking links. Is it just me or is it polymers the issue? Does anyone have similar experiences and or advice?

Hello,
I am Chair of the Polymer Society Board, the Technical Division within IOM3 that oversees those members with polymer interests; particularly if they have indicated an interest in polymers through the member's profile page and have opted into receiving email updates on relevant events and topics.
I am not aware of any particular issues in this area but can you give me some more information concerning your problem please- either through this forum or by direct contact with me at stuart.patrick@iom3.org
SUPPORT FOR CHARTERED APPLICATION
I believe you are based in the East Midlands ? We have active local groups based around there who cover Polymers and other IOM3 related disciplines, details of these groups can be found at http://www.iom3.org/content/midlands-region , try EMMS or MPRG. Who have you had the bad experience with ? As Stuart Patrick has mentioned we have the Polymer Society which is like a special interest group, details http://www.iom3.org/content/polymer-society. Hope this helps. David

RE:SUPPORT FOR CHARTERED APPLICATION
Thank you David. Specifically, the issue I face is that of referees-I only have one who is a chartered engineer. Could you advise as to what other options I could pursue?
I would really appreciate your help.
CEng referees further thoughts.
Hia again. Would suggest that you use the one CEng you know as your sponsor/lead referee, assuming that they know you well ( usually for >2 years) and can vouch for what you have done/ your abilities. The CEng does not have to be registered via IOM3, any other body will be fine eg IMechE and the likes. As per my earlier reply I would strongly advise you to get yourself known within the networks IOM3 offers as there will be other CEng's there who could in time act as a referee. In the meantime if you can find support from say a Chartered Chemist, Physicist that may well suffice whilst you work on getting known ?
Any help ?
Regards
David

Hello Mayo, thanks for coming back to me.
Have you considered joining the Materials KTN Polymer Sector? KTN is Knowledge Transfer Network and it is free to join.
Details are at https://ktn.innovateuk.org/web/polymers
There are various activities and events in which you can participate (some are online such as webinars).
In addition, in your member’s profile within IOM3, you should highlight the technical areas in which you are interested to receive email notifications of relevant events to develop your network.
