Ian Edmonds
I attained a MEng (Hons) degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Sheffield in 2004. In September of 2004 I started an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) with the Department of Metal-lurgy and Materials, University of Birmingham but based in company at Rolls-Royce, Derby. My thesis centred on the oxidation performance of uncoated and coated fourth generation single crystal nickel-based su-peralloys. I currently have a number of refereed publications in this field with more to follow!
Following the completion of my EngD in 2008 I joined the Materials Ca-pability Acquisition Group at Rolls-Royce. I currently work on a number of programmes related to single crystal alloy development for future Trent engines and I also have involvement in the advancement of CMC technology. I am responsible for the supervision of PhD/EngD students at several Rolls-Royce University Technology Partnerships. Additionally I am a committee member of the East Midlands Materials Society (EMMS) and a member of the International Thermal Spray Association (ITSA).
Outside of work I like to play as much sport as possible - in particu-lar cricket, rugby, football, gym and squash. Residing close to the peak district means I can easily get out into the peaks for walking and trail-biking.
