David GoochDavid Gooch is a member of the Institute Council as Chair of the Materials Science and Technology Division; he is a Fellow of the Institute. David graduated in Materials Science from Cambridge in 1969 and gained his doctorate from Oxford in 1972, his thesis topic being the creep of ceramics. He then joined the Central Electricity Research Laboratories of the CEGB to work on the microstructure and properties of high temperature materials for power generation. During his time at CERL the positions he held included Head of the Mechanical Testing Laboratories and Chairman of the CEGB Remnant Life Task Force; at the time of privatisation of the electricity industry in 1992 he was head of the Structural Integrity Group. Following privatisation David worked for National Power on advanced and sustainable technologies for power generation. He now works as an independent consultant. He is the author of approximately 70 published papers.
