Incorporated Engineers & Technicians Committee

The Technology Application Forum is managed by the Incorporated Engineers and Technicians Committee. This committee is an enthusiastic group of people committed to assisting in the training and development of technicians and incorporated engineers, and to raising their status.

The committee consists of 8-12 members from industry and academic establishments. At least half are registered Incorporated Engineers or Engineering Technicians and are selected to cover the range of disciplines within the Institute - metals, polymers, minerals and mining. Council members representing non-corporate members are ex-officio members of the committee. Members serve for three years, with an option for a second term.

Responsibilities

The committee meets at least three times a year to:

  1. Develop and maintain links with relevant organisations and groups, both within and outside the Institute on matters affecting the training and professional development of Technicians and Incorporated Engineers.
  2. Research, monitor, develop and promote pathways for the professional development of ‘technicians’, working with other groups as appropriate.
  3. Provide expert advice and guidance to internal and external bodies on the provision and training and professional development of ‘technicians’ within industry.
  4. Research, develop and run appropriate events for ‘technicians’, working with other groups as appropriate.
  5. Organise and co-ordinate the Institute’s Technician of the Year award.
  6. Develop and endorse appropriate cases for other relevant awards.
  7. Research, develop and promote improved services for members working as ‘technicians’.
  8. Direct and provide content for relevant parts of the Institute web site.
  9. Represent the views of Technician and Associate members to the Professional Policy Board and to Council.
