Chris Corti CEng CSci FIMMM FCGI - Chairman of the Member’s Benevolent Trust, the Membership Committee and the Professional Policy Board
Chris Corti
Chris retired as Managing Director, International Technology at World Gold Council in 2004, but continued in a consultancy role until July 2009. He currently runs COReGOLD Technology Consultancy, specialising in precious metals and their applications.
His early career was spent at the Central Electricity Research Laboratories in Leatherhead and at the Brown Boveri Research Laboratories in Switzerland (where he got involved in setting up the European Region of the former Institution of Metallurgists) with his PhD research in between at the University of Surrey.
Returning to the UK in 1978 at the Johnson Matthey Research Centre, Chris became involved with the Institute’s regional activities as secretary of the Oxford Met Soc and then as representative of the home counties local societies on the Local Affairs Committee of the Institute – a role he played in its various guises for around 25 years, including a spell as Chairman of the Regional Affairs Committee. It was during this period that he helped to modernise the Student Lecture Competition, with sponsorship from the Worshipful Company of Armourers & Brasiers, and formulated the regional structure of local societies.
After a short period at the DTI, setting up the LINK university programme on surface engineering and NASURF, Chris moved to World Gold Council in 1994, leading international programmes to promote jewellery technology and new industrial applications for gold. He was Editor of the two journals, Gold Bulletin and Gold Technology, and chaired the organising committee of the regular international Gold conferences.
Chris has previously served on Council of the Institute twice, and is currently Chairman of the Member’s Benevolent Trust, the Membership Committee and has recently taken on the Chair of the Professional Policy Board.
