Welcome to the Building Materials Committee

Welcome to the Building Materials Committee of the Ceramics Society.

The group works to represent the interests of the building materials community which includes, but is not limited to, bricks, pipes, floor and roof tiles, pavers, terracotta ware, chimneys and flue systems, chemically resistant masonry and raw materials.

The Committee membership includes representatives from industry, academia, and professional consultancy.

Aims and objectives


  • Within the Ceramics Society the Building Materials Committee has a role to facilitate the interests of members who have an affiliation with building materials
  • To provide opportunities for CPD and to encourage members to gain enhanced professional recognition by gaining higher grades of membership
  • To organise technical seminars, such as the Bretby Conference (in conjunction with ICTa)
  • Maintain links with ICTa to help members into higher grades of membership following successful completion of they higher levels of the Technical Certificate, or by other qualification and experience routes
  • To increase the size and breadth of the committee by welcoming approaches from active professionals in the field to join us
