Dr Inkson is a Senior Lecturer in Nanostructured Materials at The University of Sheffield; she was appointed to a Royal Society University Research Fellowship in Nanomechanics at the University of Oxford in 1998 and transferred to the University of Sheffield in 2002. She has extensive experience in nanoscale mechanical behaviour of materials analysed by both electron and ion microscopies, holding an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship at the Max-Planck-Institut (1996-1998) and a PhD/Research Fellowship at The University of Cambridge (1991-1995). She has lead the construction of the UK’s first TEM nanorobotic stage, and is Director/PI of the new RCUK Basic Technology Nanorobotics programme. She is Chair/PI of the EPSRC NanoFIB Network for Focused Ion Beam Microscopy, and serves on the RMS EM committee and the IOM3 Nanotechnology committee.
