Bessemer room
The Bessemer Room is dedicated to Sir Henry Bessemer (1813-1898), a pioneer of the steel industry and one of the outstanding inventors of the 19th century. The room contains a fine portrait of Bessemer and many of his personal artefacts, including books, designs and the casket which held the scroll conferring his Honorary Freedom of the City of London. The Bessemer Room was originally the library of 1 Carlton House Terrace and was also the venue of the Savage Club, one of London's leading gentleman's clubs, from 1936 to 1963. The room has views over The Mall and St James's Park and is ideal for private dinner parties of up to 20 and boardroom-style meetings of up to 22.
