IOM3 Awards for Personal Achievement
Futers Gold Medal
For outstanding services to the international minerals industry. Open to Institute members and non-members.
Medal for Excellence
For conspicuous contribution, either during the year or cumulatively over a number of years, to the art, science and practise of the mining industry. The recipient may be an individual or organisation.
Overseas Award
For a member resident overseas, for the best paper presented at an Institute symposium, or published in a mining journal, or for notable contribution to development of the Institute overseas. The recipient will receive a medal and certificate.
IOM3 Scholarship and Bursary Awards
The following are the Scholarships and Awards available for the Minerals, Mining and Petroleum Sectors. Applications for 2008 should have been received by 15th April 2008 but are included here for information. Bosworth Smith Trust Fund
Approximately £5000 will be available for grants for the assistance of postgraduate research in metal mining, nonferrous extraction metallurgy or mineral dressing.
Centenary Scholarship
This annual Scholarship (value £500/annum), which is restricted to first or second year undergraduates student members of the Institute, will be awarded for projects, visits, etc in the fields of minerals and mining.
The Fellowship will be awarded for postgraduate study in subjects within the fields of minerals and mining. The award is for young graduates, domiciled in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK, who wish to undertake advanced study or research in the UK.
The Bequest was established for the 'advancement of teaching and practice of geology as applied to mining'.
The Award will be offered to British subjects between the ages of 21 and 35 to study mineral industry operations in the UK or overseas, to present a paper at an international minerals industry conference or to assist the applicant in attending a full-time course of study related to the minerals industry outside the UK.
Stanley Elmore Fellowships are tenable at a UK university for research into all branches of extractive metallurgy and mineral processing (normally two scholarships of up to £14000 may be funded).
The Scholarship is awarded to a member, not older than 35 years, who is training or has been trained for a career in mining and/or related technologies. The scholarship shall be to assist the study for an aspect of engineering in the minerals industry. (value of up to £5500).
Awards administered by the Midland Institute of Mining Engineers
May be awarded to an individual or group of individuals to fund the associated travelling and subsistence costs that will enable the recipient(s) to enhance the value of a field of study related to their overall education, training and experience in the science and art of mining.
The Webster Travelling Prize
May be offered to applicants (individuals or groups), who are under 35 years of age, to fund associated travelling and subsistence costs to enhance the value of a field of study related to their overall education, training and experience in the science and practice of mining engineering.
AMCO Bursary
To advance education in the science and practice of mining, in particular to provide short-term work related training for students who may have difficulties in obtaining practical instruction and work participation.

J C Boyle Travelling Scholarship
Applications are invited for the J C Boyle Travelling Scholarship. The Scholarship takes the form of a grant to be used to assist young engineers, as part of their continuing professional development, to make visits to companies engaged in tunnelling or in the mineral extraction and processing industries, preferably but not necessarily overseas, to study aspects of technology or management practice associated with these industries. Applicants should be under 35 years of age. Whilst the scholarship is open to all, membership of IOM3 would be viewed as an advantage.
