1. Board membership
Energy Materials group membership is currently 18, this year the group welcomed as new members; Vic Kearley and Keith Harrison. We take the opportunity to thank Ivan Buckley, Steve Harmer and Alan Hooper for their contributions to the group in the past.
2. Board meetings
EMG meetings were held on 25th Jan 2010 (10 attendees), 5th May 2010 (13 attendees), 14th October 2010 (9 attendees).
3. Opportunities for growth of Division Community or constraints
The Energy Materials Group continues to act across the divisions, acting as a focus for energy sector materials activities over the whole materials life cycle.
4 Technical programme
a) Events held
The event “Sustainable Materials for Emerging Energy Technologies (SMEET)” due to be held as part of the November 2010 Materials Sustainability meeting will now be held as a stand- alone meeting in February 2011.
b) Events planned for next 12 months
Issues for Future Nuclear Power Generation in the UK – initial meeting of a proposed series on issues of current public debate
5 Foresight / Innovation and Growth
The group has continued involvement with Materials UK in the continuing development and implementation of the Materials for Energy Strategic Research Agenda,. Several members of the EMG, including the co-chair of the Materials UK Energy Materials Working Group, Dr Derek Allen, have been involved in this major survey of energy materials research and development needs and its implications for the UK supply chain. The group was involved in a meeting to showcase UK capability in energy materials held in March 2010 at the Radisson Hotel, Manchester.

8 Government interfaces
Membership from EPSRC remained difficult whilst EPSRC continued to reorganise. TSB has been well represented by 2 members of the group.
9 Publications
The EMG works closely with Maney Publishing to promote the Energy Materials Journal. Several articles have been prepared by group members and a number of themed issues are in preparation.
