Andy ThomasDr Andy Thomas is a semi-retired technical consultant trading under the name 'Future Solutions'. He has been a professional member of IOM3 (and its predecessors) since ~1975. He is also a Chartered Engineer with nearly 40 years experience in the nuclear industry (Amersham, Rolls-Royce, Scottish Nuclear, BNFL) of which the last 15 years have been in nuclear liabilities management, including 4 years as Strategy Manager for decommissioning and clean up of the whole Sellafield site.

Dr Thomas was founder chairman of the SAFEGROUNDS and SD-SPUR projects developing UK wide guidance in nuclear and defence site clean up and decommissioning waste management, which have been pioneering the use of stakeholder dialogue in the nuclear industry since 1998.

As well as being the current NW England/Ireland Regional Councillor on the National Council of the Institute of Materials Minerals & Mining (IOM3), Dr Thomas is also President of the Materials Society of Cumbria and an active member of the Nuclear Institute-Cumbria Branch committee.

Dr Thomas lives in Cockermouth Cumbria. He is married, and has two sons who now live and work Sheffield and Reading.
