Industry Masterclasses
As in previous years, a number of Industry Masterclasses will take place at Materials Congress 2008, consisting of presentations and discussions by OEMs in which their future strategy regarding materials and manufacturing is explained. The Masterclasses will be of special value to their existing or potential supply chains.
Four masterclasses are planned during Materials Congress 2008:

Jaguar and Land Rover lightweight vehicle strategy
Sponsored by Jaguar Land Rover A series of four presentations, two in the morning and two in the
afternoon with ample time for discussion. The current state of the
art, materials and manufacturing requirements and future goals will
be the main topics under discussion. Draft programme

Biomaterials for Orthopaedics and Wound Management
Sponsored by Smith and Nephew Nephew in conjunction with the Biomaterials Division of the Institute and
will cover the clinical needs for biomaterials in orthopaedics and wound
management and how technology is changing to accommodate these needs. There
will be presentations from industry, clinicians and academia. Draft programme

Advanced materials for energy
Sponsored by Alstom Alstom intend to examine the materials issues and challenges to be faced
over the next twenty years in power generation. The masterclass will include
a series of presentations by suppliers. Final programme

Carbon composites for the automotive industry
Sponsored by the Advanced Composites Group
This session will look at technical and commercial needs, the growing
acceptance of carbon composites, industry trends, the future for composites,
and how the supply chain must develop to provide high volume production
solutions. The Advanced Composites Group and other key companies from the
supply chain will present their strategies and market development
perspectives to meet OEMs' needs.
