Materials for Sport: Performance, Construction, Infrastructure - Materials Congress - London, 25-28 June 2012
Many fields of technology are contributing to Britain’s sporting
goals, but one of them deserves special prominence. The 2012 London
Olympics and Paralympics will be remembered as the Games that brought
materials science to new levels of innovation and enterprise.
There are two distinct but complementary foundations of this claim, and
they form the twin themes of the 2012 Materials Congress. The first is
the role of materials technology in sporting performance. The second is
its contribution to sustainability, manifest in the legacy assets of
London 2012 as well as the remarkable project that has built the
infrastructure.
The two themes run in succession over four days, and will feature
keynote lectures as well as invited lectures by the specialists who
spearhead Britain’s greatest ever sporting enterprise. There will also
be a poster exhibition giving everyone active in the field of sporting
materials an opportunity to present their work.
