Advanced Sheet Metal Forming Committee - mission
ASMFC has a broad interest in all Sheet Metal Forming processes but will focus more on high end processes such as Superplastic Forming, Hot/Warm Forming, Stretch Forming, Rubber Pad Forming, Deep Drawing and Hydroforming. Issues related to production practices whether in the case of limited number of parts in niche applications or in large volume production will be covered. ASMFC main focus on material will be on Titanium, Aluminium Magnesium and Steel based alloys.
Role and activities
Consider the ASMFC as an expansion of the former Superplasticity Committee rather than a brand new one; i.e. existing members and focus on the Super-Plastic Forming (SPF) process will always form an essential part of the new committee.
Maintain a balanced representation in the committee membership from academia, research organisations and industry.
Secure participation from at least one industrial partner from each major sector related to SMF (e.g. an OEM from Aerospace and Automotive, Materials Supplier, Tool and Die Makers)
Raise the profile of the IOM3 within the SMF community across major industrial sectors (Aerospace and Automotive) as well as academic research groups.
Collaborate with relevant European and International Committees (in particular European SPF Committee and the International Conference on Superplasticity in Advanced Materials Committee)
Coordinate with other committees under the Material Science and Technology Division in IOM3 and establish direct links for collaboration in areas of common interest.
Liaise with other groups and divisions in IOM3, and relevant EPSRC and TSB initiatives (e.g. High Value Manufacturing Catapult)
Seek to identify new technologies that are related to SMF and explore the need/benefit of setting up a special separate initiative as a part of ASMFC activities.
